Do as I do, not as I say.
In my experience doctors or nurses rarely talk to their patients about the importance of taking nutritional supplements. But the majority of them take supplements themselves. Here is a study that reports as many as 79% of doctors and 82% of nurses take supplements.
Why do I take them? I believe that our fruits and vege's simply don't have in them what they used to have in terms of minerals and vitamins. I also admit I don't eat as many fruits and vege's as I should. Most people don't. So I think it is good insurance to add supplements when I eat.

I often see Senate Document 264 mentioned in this regard, stating that our government knew in the late 1930's that our food was no longer supplying us with the nutrients needed for our health. If that's the case, then Americans have been deprived for a long, long time. No wonder chronic health issues are so prevalent.

This might be partially due the litigous state in which we live. Health care providers/educators are being sued to the tune of m/billions of dollars each year and are overly cautious even with something as benign as supplements. Benign in the sense of not a major risk to consume. As with most health concerns, it behooves the patient to do the homework and then ask the smart questions.
